Boot camp is half over!

It's hard to believe that as of Friday (two days ago), boot camp is half over. I don't know that I've learned a lot of new things, but I've definitely learned where my problems areas are, and I've learned how to fix them. So, these last three weeks should be easier than the first three. This week is crazy busy though. We have interviews and photoshoots set up for our multimedia stories for Tuesday, then we have our final copy of our enterprise stories due Wednesday at 9 a.m. and then all morning Wednesday we are editing the audio and photos for our multimedia stories and putting them together. They are due by noon. It's crazy! We also have our stationery (envelope, letterhead and business cards) due by Friday at 5 p.m. A lot of work in one week.

I tried a church today. It wasn't too bad. The music was good and the sermon was a good one to be there for on my first day. The pastor was talking about the roots of the church, their beliefs and foundation. So, now I know what they believe, or seem to. It seemed like they were very much like my church at home and my church from IUP. I am thinking I'll go back, but I'd be willing to try one or two others before I pick one for sure. We'll see.

I guess I don't really have much to say. That's why it takes me so long to write between posts. Life here isn't too bad. Maezzy and I just hung out yesterday and I rented Coraline. It was a cute movie. I like Tim Burton films, especially his animated ones. It was pretty enjoyable. I'd watch it again. I watched When Harry Met Sally today. That's the kind of movie that if I see it on TV, no matter what I have to do that day and no matter what part of the movie it is at, I will watch it. And now that I own it, and I was in a movie mood this weekend, I put it in. I took a nap after that. Then I called three more people for my enterprise story, but only one answered. I'm hoping the others call back soon. I think it's going to be a good story. Not necessarily publishable, but not bad. But I'll definitely keep you posted about that.

Okey dokey artichokey! Bye for now.

And So It Begins...

Hello, everyone (as Katie Couric would say):

I've been in Syracuse for 13 days and I've decided it's about time to get my blog started.

I'm pretty much settled into my new apartment, and if I'm not, my cat certainly is. She has slept on almost every surface of the place and I'm really needing to brush her (daily!) if I don't want the whole place to look like a calico cat.

I've been to the zoo and a minor league baseball game. I've made banana bread, cookies twice and tonight I'm baking a cake for a classmate's birthday tomorrow. I unclogged a drain and I've been grocery shopping and got a new cell phone, among other things.

I went to my first day of class and met some new people. Erica, Lisa, Marki and Amanda seem to be my friend group, and sometimes we see Paul and Jon and Anna and her boyfriend, though I can't remember his name. We all went to pop culture trivia night Friday at the Inn Complete and it was really fun. Then Sunday we went to the welcome clambake -- also fun and a good time to keep getting to know new people.

So far the work has been challenging, but I'm not worried about failing...yet. Last week the PR kids had class Tuesday night, and for our news writing class we had to interview a classmate and write a story by the next morning. Because news writing ended at 5 and PR started at 6, there was basically no time to interview. Ultimately, I had 3 less hours to do the work everyone else did, and I still got to bed just after midnight and got an A on the assignment. Therefore, I feel the work will be a challenge throughout the rest of the summer six weeks, but I also feel that I will be able to do it.

Other than all of this, not much has happened. Just reading, reading, reading and some writing and a little bit of sketching. Bill will be coming up for the weekend and I'm hoping we will go out for Amanda's birthday Friday night if the homework load isn't too heavy. Then Saturday there is a scavenger hunt and karaoke at the Inn Complete. I think the plan will be to do homework all day Saturday until the hunt...hopefully it's ok if Bill comes along.

That's all for now. I think it's a good start to the blogging world of a 'Cuser!
